Participants from 10 countries will study the Stanislavsky system and Meyerhold’s biomechanics.
An InteRussia fellowship “Professional Training for Actors of Drama Theatre and Cinema” has begun in Moscow. Fourteen young actors from Argentina, Brazil, Germany, India, Egypt, Turkey, South Africa, Malaysia, China and Ethiopia are taking part. The programme runs until 3 October 2026.
The curriculum includes practical classes in acting technique, stage speech and movement, study of Konstantin Stanislavsky’s system and Vsevolod Meyerhold’s biomechanics, meetings with Russian actors and cultural figures, as well as visits to the Moscow Art Theatre, the Bolshoi Theatre, the Stanislavsky Museum and other cultural venues.
The opening ceremony was held at the Russian Institute of Theatre Arts – GITIS. Acting Rector of GITIS Marina Kiryushkina noted that over the six weeks the participants will immerse themselves in the rich tradition of Russian theatre. “We are delighted to see the growing interest in Russian psychological theatre year after year and are ready to share this experience with colleagues from around the world,” she said.
Lyana Dymova, Coordinator of Scientific Programmes at the Gorchakov Fund, encouraged the participants to make the most of the fellowship, not to hesitate to ask questions and to try new things.
“InteRussia is not only about classes. It is an opportunity to see Russian theatre from the inside, meet colleagues from different countries and discover Moscow,” she added.
Konstantin Kolpakov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo, emphasised that projects in the field of theatrical art strengthen cultural ties between states, create new opportunities for the self-realisation of talented actors, directors and cultural specialists, and serve as a bridge linking creative initiatives from different countries.
Alexandra Burman, Director of the International Cooperation Department at TV BRICS, noted that this year the geography of the fellowship has expanded to a record ten countries.
“For the first time, young actors from Egypt, Turkey, Malaysia and Ethiopia have joined the project. For us this is not only an indicator of the growing interest in the Russian theatre school and in humanitarian cooperation in general, but also confirmation of the effectiveness of the information support that TV BRICS provides annually for the programme in the BRICS+ countries. We are convinced that it is precisely the combination of cultural initiatives and the opportunities of international media cooperation that makes it possible to build sustainable professional and public ties,” she said.
After the official part, the fellows received souvenirs. The first class for the participants began with a masterclass in stage speech.
The InteRussia Fellowship in Theatre Arts is implemented by Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund, GITIS and TV BRICS International Media Network. The programme is implemented as part of Rossotrudnichestvo’s flagship New Generation initiative with grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.
