InteRussia fellowship programme for energy experts has ended in St Petersburg

On 25 August, St Petersburg State University of Economics hosted the closing ceremony of an InteRussia fellowship entitled Changing energy landscape: the new energy routes or energy landscape towards net zero, which had brought together foreign energy specialists from ASEAN member states.

Natalia Suscheva, Vice-Rector for Digital Development at UNECON, was the first to address the participants and touched on the university’s activities in the field of diplomacy:

"The university attaches particular importance to such international projects. In this case, we have the honour to act as a conduit of Russian solutions, intellectual products and services to the markets of South-East Asia. In the current geopolitical realities when we are witnessing an emerging multipolar world and transformation of the global economic system, such initiatives are practical steps to strengthen economic and investment cooperation and support peaceful and stable development of Russia and ASEAN member countries."

Daniyar Akkaziev, CEO of the Russia-ASEAN Business Council, then gave a talk to the foreign guests and thanked the partners and participants of the programme:

"The Russia-ASEAN Business Council is interested in developing a comprehensive dialogue between Russia and the countries of the region. We see great potential for expanding ties between our states in bilateral and multilateral formats on energy issues in the fields of business and public administration. I hope that the fellowship participants will be able to share the acquired knowledge, experience, and contacts with their compatriots to promote this programme."

Sergey Orlov, Leading Specialist at the Gorchakov Fund, voiced his own impression of another fellowship and expressed hope that InteRussia would be able to strengthen cooperation between the Russian Federation and the regional countries of the South-East Asia:

"The fellowship for energy experts was a positive experience for us. We noticed that cooperation between Russia and ASEAN member states in this area has great potential and stirs interest, which we will endeavour to develop. We hope that each of the attendees will be able to become a conduit for expanding contacts between companies and organisations in their countries, which is necessary for the harmonious development of Russia-ASEAN relations in the energy, logistics, and governmental fields."

From 3 to 25 August, eight fellows from Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, and the Philippines attended a series of lectures at UNECON on the energy policy of Russia and other countries from leading Russian and foreign scholars and specialists of relevant companies. The fellows also learnt about the design and operating principles of energy facilities in Moscow, St Petersburg, and the Leningrad Region.

The colleagues from ASEAN countries toured Severnaya compressor plant and Leningrad NPP in St Petersburg. As part of the Moscow part of the programme, the participants visited the building of the System Operator of the Unified Energy Centre, the 110 kV Medvedevskaya digital substation of PJSC Rosseti, CHPP-20 of PJSC Mosenergo branch, and the Russian Ministry of Energy. In addition, with the support of the Moscow Government, the trainees learnt about the capital’s progress in introducing environmentally friendly public transport.

During the fellowship, its participants also got acquainted with Russia’s cultural heritage sites: Tsarskoye Selo, the State Hermitage Museum, and Kolomenskoye.

The InteRussia fellowship programme for foreign energy specialists from ASEAN member states Changing energy landscape: the new energy routes or energy landscape towards net zero took place in Moscow and St Petersburg from 3 to 25 August. It was organised by the Gorchakov Fund in cooperation with the Russia-ASEAN Business Council and UNECON with the support of the Russian Energy Agency and the Ministry of Energy of Russia.
