Applications Now Open for InteRussia Program for IR Professionals

InteRussia Team is launching a call for applications for the InteRussia programme of short-term scientific and research fellowships for rising professionals in international relations, political science and area studies. The project is conducted with grant support from the Presidential Grants Fund.

InteRussia is an opportunity for aspiring experts in history, theory and practice of international relations, political science and area studies to get fully immersed into Russian academia, visit policy-making institutions, participate in expert sessions hosted by universities, think tanks and non-governmental organisations. The unique feature of the programme is that the selected participants will be able to work in close contact with and under the academic guidance of leading Russian IR scholars from MGIMO University.

The mission of the programme is to build a horizontal network of rising scholars from around the globe to foster fruitful academic dialogue on emerging IR perspectives in an increasingly multipolar world.

The fellowship activities will be organised in English and hosted at MGIMO University (Moscow, Russia) from October 21 to December 1.

The theme of the 2024 autumn fellowship is “Values and Institutions in the Changing World Order”.

The deadline for applications is September 1, 11:59 pm Moscow time (UTC +3). The results of the competition will be communicated to all candidates by email.

The fellowship is to result in an original individual research project of 15,000-25,000 characters (incl. spaces) based on the submitted research proposal (in English).

Who can apply?

To participate in the competition, applicants will have to meet the following requirements:

  1. non-Russian citizenship;
  2. age 25-39;
  3. permanent residence outside of Russia;
  4. professional knowledge of English (CEFR C1 and higher);
  5. submission of a research proposal;
  6. absence of any employment/previous enrollment in academic programmes/other ties with MGIMO University;
  7. a Ph.D. degree or at least 3 years of working experience in academic institutions/think tanks or Ph.D. studies in progress.

Selection of the applicants for the fellowship will be based on results of the competition.

The competition criteria include:

  1. a research proposal;
  2. academic publications;
  3. letters of recommendation;
  4. other research conducted by the applicant (conferences, grants awarded, academic fellowships, expert publications, opinion pieces/comments in the media, etc.);
  5. online interview.

How to apply?

  1. Sign up on the English version of the Gorchakov Fund’s website. If you did not receive a registration verification email, check your spam folder.
  2. Navigate to the My Projects section, click on the Create application button, select the InteRussia International Relations MGIMO (Autumn) contest and hit Yes.
  3. Fill in all mandatory fields.
  4. Click on the Submit button in the Apply section and wait for the status to change from Preparing to Submitted.

Terms of participation:

The organisers will cover the following costs:

  • travel expenses to/from Moscow;
  • single accommodation;
  • visa support;
  • medical insurance;
  • a scholarship of RUB 45,000 for the entire duration of the six-week fellowship.

The participants are supposed to cover the following costs:

  • food.
