Call for Applications: InteRussia Fellowship for Journalists from Africa

The InteRussia team announces a call for applications to join the InteRussia fellowship programme for journalists from Sub-Saharan Africa, which will be hosted by the Sputnik International News Agency and Radio as part of SputnikPro program.

The InteRussia programme offers international journalists an opportunity to become acquainted with Russia’s media agenda, gain professional experience from leading specialists of the Sputnik news agency, and exchange expertise with colleagues from different countries. As part of the programme, participants will meet with leading Russian experts and specialists, representatives of key national news agencies, visit major educational, research, and public platforms, and take part in practical tutorials, workshops, and seminars covering various aspects of contemporary journalism.

The fellowship will take place from July 6 to August 1, 2026.

Location: Moscow, Russia.

Working language: English.

Who can apply?

Journalists working in print and digital media, as well as on audio platforms are invited to apply, provided they meet the following requirements:

  • citizenship of one of the countries of Sub-Saharan Africa;
  • residence outside the Russian Federation;
  • no academic or employment affiliation with Russian educational institutions or organisations at the time of application (candidates must not be enrolled in Russian educational institutions or employed by Russian organizations);
  • age between 25 and 40;
  • proficiency in English (minimum level B2).

How to Apply?

To participate in the competitive selection process, applicants must:

  1. Register on the English-language version of the Gorchakov Fund website. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please check your spam folder.
  2. Go to the “My Projects” section, click “Create Application,” select the “InteRussia Journalism Africa 2026” competition, and confirm your choice.
  3. Complete all required sections of the application form.
  4. Attach a link to your portfolio.
  5. Submit the application by clicking the “Submit” button and in the “Apply” section, and wait until the status changes from “Preparing” to “Submitted.”

Fellowship Terms

The organizers provide:

  • travel from the participant’s place of residence to Moscow and back;
  • accommodation in double rooms at a hotel;
  • a scholarship of 30,000 rubles for the duration of the programme.

Participants must cover the following expenses:

  • medical insurance;
  • visa application fee;
  • meals during the fellowship period.

The deadline for submitting applications is May 19, 23:59 (Moscow time).

The InteRussia Fellowship for Journalists from Sub-Saharan Africa is implemented by Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund and the Sputnik International News Agency and Radio as part of SputnikPro program.
