InteRussia fellowship programme on international journalism ends in Moscow

On 20 October, the Gorchakov Fund held the closing ceremony of the InteRussia programme entitled MENA and Russia: Background, Narratives, and Prospects and organised by the Fund in cooperation with Rossotrudnichestvo and the Sputnik international information agency and radio station.

It was attended by 12 journalists from Algeria, Egypt, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Palestine, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Tunisia, and the UAE.

Before the programme came to an end, Maxim Suchkov, PhD in Political Science, Director of the Institute for International Studies, MGIMO University, addressed the participants and shared his thoughts on the transformation of the world order paying special attention to Russia’s position on key issues of modern world politics:

"Sadly enough, the history of international relations tells us that the rules adopted by the world community are usually formed as a result of major conflicts. Today we are witnessing a critical moment for the system of international relations, which is undergoing a decisive transformation."

Maxim Suchkov’s address was followed by the fellowship programme’s closing ceremony. Lyana Dymova, Academic Programmes Coordinator at the Gorchakov Fund, addressed the participants with parting speech and thanked the journalists for their interest in the programme:

"We hope that the fellowship helped to form a community of journalists from different regions, where everyone will be able to reach each other out for both work and personal purposes. For our part, we look forward to maintaining contacts and continuing our cooperation with you in other programmes."

The ceremony was also attended by Vasily Pushkov, Director for International Cooperation at the Sputnik international information agency and radio. He also expressed his hope to continue communicating with the fellowship participants:

"We are always open to cooperation and joint projects! We have had cases when, after completing InteRussia and SputnikPro, programme participants came to Russia not as interns, but as project organisers who represented their country at the state level. So do not be afraid to propose your ideas and contact us."

The event ended with the awarding of certificates to the fellows. The journalists thanked the organisers and noted that the experience gained in Russia would be useful to them in their professional activities back home.
