On September 30, Rossiya Segodnya media group’s headquarters hosted the official opening of the InteRussia fellowship for Latin American journalists. The program is organised together with Sputnik international news agency and radio and Rossotrudnichestvo.

Opening remarks to participants were given by the Gorchakov Fund’s Deputy Executive Director Sergey Orlov, as well as Sputnik International Informational Agency and Radio’s Director for International Cooperation Vasily Pushkov.

“Latin America has always been an important partner of Russia in areas of cultural and humanitarian exchange. We are glad that the program gives Latin American journalists a chance to see the work of Russian media, and establish direct professional contacts,” Sergey Orlov remarked.

The participants include 10 representatives of the leading media outlets in Latin America and the Caribbean: Brasil247 website (Brazil), Ámbito Financiero newspaper (Argentina), Listin Diario newspaper (Dominican Republic), Página12 newspaper (Argentina), Visión360 website (Bolivia), El Espectador newspaper (Colombia), Empresa Pública de Comunicación newspaper (Ecuador), Exa FM radio station (Ecuador), Sin Linea Media Group (Mexico) and Andina News Agency (Peru).

“The program provides a chance to break down barriers and get your own understanding of Russia together with colleagues from our continent,” noted Paul Alex Mathiasen from the Dominican newspaper Listin Diario.

Nazarena Lomagno, a journalist from Argentina (Ámbito Financiero newspaper) added: “I hope to expand my knowledge of the geopolitical situation of Russia from a national point of view. I want to gain a deeper understanding of the country's economic policy, study the work of large companies and the impact of sanctions on international trade. I am sure that this month will be eventful and unforgettable.”

During this month, participants will attend lectures and workshops given by the leading experts of the Media group, meet with representatives of Russian companies and social and political organizations, as well as get to know the culture and sights of Moscow.

The InteRussia fellowship in journalism for Latin American countries is implemented by the Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund and the Sputnik International News Agency and Radio Broadcast Service within the framework of the New Generation program of Rossotrudnichestvo and with grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.
