Call for Applications: InteRussia Fellowship in Russian Studies

The InteRussia team announces a call for applications to join the InteRussia fellowship programme for specialists in philology and the Russian language, which will be hosted by the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute.

The fellowship programme offers participants an opportunity to become acquainted with the most significant and promising achievements of Russian scholars in the field of philology, linguistics and literature, engage with the contemporary academic agenda, and integrate into the professional scholarly community. As part of the programme, participants will study in accordance with their chosen research track under the academic supervision of leading experts of the Pushkin State Russian Language Institute, and take part in expert sessions, academic discussions, and events held at universities, analytical centers, and public organizations.

A key component of the fellowship will be participation in the 6th International Kostomarov Forum, one of the leading international platforms bringing together prominent scholars, educators, and experts to discuss current issues in the development of the Russian language, methods of teaching Russian as a foreign language, and the role of the humanities in the modern world.

The final result of the programme will be the preparation of a scientific article co-authored with an academic supervisor.

  • The Phenomenon of Literary Classics
  • Issues of Teaching Russian as a Foreign Language

The fellowship will take place from May 18 to June 14, 2026.

Location: Moscow, Russia.

Working languages: Russian.

Who can apply?

Specialists in the field of philology, linguistics and literature who meet the following requirements are invited to apply:

  • non-Russian citizenship;
  • residence outside of the Russian Federation;
  • no academic or employment affiliation with Russian educational institutions or employers at the time of application (candidates must not be enrolled in Russian educational institutions or employed by Russian organizations);
  • age between 21 and 40;
  • proficiency in the Russian language (a minimum of B2 level).

How to Apply?

To participate in the competitive selection process, applicants must:

  1. Register on the English-language version of the Gorchakov Fund website. If you did not receive a confirmation email, please check your spam folder.
  2. Go to the “My Projects” section, click “Create Application,” select the competition “InteRussia Russian Studies 2026”, and confirm your choice.
  3. Complete all required sections of the application form.
  4. Attach a link to your portfolio.
  5. Submit the application by clicking the “Submit Application” button in the “Apply” section and wait until the status changes from “Preparing to “Submitted.”

The selection criteria include:

  • the depth and quality of the applicant’s motivation statement;
  • academic publications;
  • the submitted letters of recommendation (2–3);
  • additional research and professional activities of the candidate, including participation in conferences, research grants and fellowships, expert publications, and commentaries in media publications;
  • the results of the interview (held online).

Fellowship Terms

The organizers provide:

  • travel from the participant’s place of residence to Moscow and back;
  • accommodation in double rooms at a hotel;
  • a scholarship of 30,000 rubles for the duration of the programme.

Participants cover the following expenses:

  • medical insurance;
  • visa application fee;
  • meals during the fellowship period.

The deadline for submitting applications is March 15, 23:59 (Moscow time).
