On July 29, St. Petersburg State University of Economics (UNECON) hosted the official opening of the InteRussia fellowship program in Energy for professionals from Latin America and the Caribbean.
Opening remarks were given by Igor Maksimtsev, Rector of UNECON, Lyana Dymova, Academic programs coordinator at the Gorchakov Fund, Aleksandra Burman, Director of International Cooperation Department at TV BRICS, and Dmitry Polikanov, Deputy Head of Rossotrudnichestvo.
“I want to stress that the fellowship is not a student trip, but a program focused on sharing real expertise with specialists who are interested in cultivating technological and scientific cooperation with Russia. Amid the rising external pressure, our country remains a reliable partner who can offer knowledge, technologies and models of sustainable development instead of solely resource-based interaction. Meetings like these strengthen economic and personal connections, building bridges between Russia and the countries of Latin America and the Caribbean based on mutual trust and respect,” Igor Maksimtsev noted.
As Lyana Dymova underlined, “InteRussia fellowship program in Energy, organized by the Gorchakov Fund since 2023, is a platform for professionals to exchange knowledge, expertise and innovative solutions. It fosters professional connections, trust, and partner relations which are a must for solving global challenges in the energy industry”.
“The TV BRICS network works to advance the common media agenda of BRICS by building relations and organizing professional exchange with national media outlets, but we also shape it through participation in international humanitarian and economic projects. That is why, for several years now, TV BRICS has been a co-organizer and key media partner of two InteRussia fellowships: for theatre actors and for energy sector professionals,” said Aleksandra Burman.
After the official opening, participants had a tour of St. Petersburg, during which they saw the Palace Square, Saint Isaac’s Cathedral, Vasilievsky Island and other city sights.
Participants from Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, Chile and Ecuador will discuss issues of international energy security, current and long-term trends in global energy markets, the Russian oil and gas industry, prospects for nuclear and renewable energy development, and opportunities for cooperation between Russia and Latin America in the energy field. The program will also include practical case studies, meetings with leading experts and heads of government agencies, and visits to energy facilities.
The InteRussia fellowship programme in Energy is implemented by ANO “Mezhdunarodniki” in collaboration with the Gorchakov Fund, St. Petersburg State University of Economics, the TV BRICS International Media Network, the Global Energy Association, the National Committee for Promoting Economic Cooperation with Latin American Countries, the Russian Energy Agency of the Russian Ministry of Energy, and Rossotrudnichestvo, with grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.
