As part of the InteRussia Fellowship in Oriental Studies, participants met with two prominent Russian experts in international affairs — Fyodor Lukyanov, Editor-in-Chief of Russia in Global Affairs journal and Chairman of the Presidium of the Council for Foreign and Defense Policy, and Dmitri Trenin, Academic Supervisor of the Institute of World Military Economy and Strategy at HSE University and President of RIAC.
The session offered fellows an opportunity to engage directly with leading Russian scholars and analysts working at the intersection of international politics, security, and global governance. Rather than a traditional lecture, the meeting was designed as an open discussion, encouraging participants to share their perspectives, ask questions, and explore the challenges facing the contemporary international system.
The conversation focused on the profound transformations currently reshaping global politics. Participants discussed the future of international institutions in a world where long-established rules and mechanisms are increasingly being questioned, the evolution of liberalism and emerging ideological alternatives, as well as Russia’s interpretation of ongoing geopolitical processes and its role in a rapidly changing international environment.
Particular attention was paid to the issue of strategic stability at a time when uncertainty has become one of the defining features of global affairs. The speakers reflected on the growing complexity of international relations and the importance of maintaining meaningful dialogue in an era marked by competing interests, regional conflicts, and shifting balances of power.
For the fellows, the meeting became an opportunity not only to deepen their understanding of current global trends, but also to exchange views with experts and colleagues from different countries, enriching the academic and professional discussions that form the core of the InteRussia experience.
