On March 24, the Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences (RAS) hosted the official opening of the InteRussia fellowship in Oriental Studies. The program brings together young specialists in history and political science from Egypt, India, Jordan, Kyrgyzstan, Libya, Pakistan, Syria, Turkey, and Uzbekistan.
The fellows were welcomed by Dr. Vasily Kuznetsov, Deputy Director of the Institute of Oriental Studies, and Lyana Dymova, Academic Programs Coordinator at the Gorchakov Fund.
“For the second year, Oriental Studies has been part of the InteRussia program. It is a great honor for us to see growing international interest in Russian expertise in Oriental, historical, and archaeological research. We will do our best to ensure that this experience is both meaningful and valuable for all participants,” — noted Dr. Vasily Kuznetsov.
“The world is undergoing a profound transformation, marked by shifting geopolitical dynamics and the rise of new centers of power. In this context, the countries studied by specialists in Oriental Studies are becoming increasingly central to global politics and economics. Our goal is to bring together leading experts to foster dialogue and deepen our shared understanding of the regions,” — shared Lyana Dymova.
Following the opening ceremony, Dr. Vasily Kuznetsov introduced participants to the history and key areas of activity of the Institute of Oriental Studies RAS.
Throughout the program, fellows will engage in conferences and expert discussions at leading universities and analytical centers in Moscow and St. Petersburg, visit museums and historical archives, and develop individual research projects under the guidance of scholars from the IOS RAS.
The InteRussia fellowship in Oriental Studies is implemented by the Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund and Institute of Oriental Studies of the Russian Academy of Sciences with grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.
