On September 20, the InteRussia theatre arts fellowship program for young artists from BRICS+ countries concluded in Moscow. The participants were young actors and theatre students from Argentina, South Africa, Brazil, Iran, India, and China. For a month, they studied the foundations of Russian psychological theatre under the guidance of leading GITIS professors.

The program included classes on stage movement, acting skills, and active analysis of plays and roles. Students attended lectures on Stanislavsky's system, Meyerhold's biomechanics, and Vakhtangov's fantastic realism. The final showcase was based on Anton Chekhov's play "The Seagull". Students presented their vision of the work, combining their national traditions with techniques of Russian psychological theatre.

"The most important thing GITIS teachers gave us are tools for further work. Besides active analysis of the play and understanding of Stanislavsky's system, they showed us many different trainings that actors need to improve," said Barbara, an actress from Brazil.

Nayam, a student from South Africa, shared his impressions: "When we first started our classes, our teacher Mikhail Chumachenko used a phrase belonging to Pyotr Naumovich Fomenko: 'Everything was in the theatre except you.' I think it's very important to express yourself on stage, your acting identity. No one wants to watch the same thing over and over again; they want to see your version of Romeo, your version of Treplev. I think this is the feeling I'll take home with me."

According to the participants, the program provided them with tools for further professional development. The teachers and organizers, in turn, noted the high level of motivation and preparation of the fellows.

The InteRussia program in theater arts is implemented by ANO "Mezhdunarodniki" in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund and GITIS, with grant support from the Presidential Grants Fund.
