InteRussia Theatre Arts Fellowship Program Concludes in Moscow

Theatre
For six inspiring weeks (from August 25 to October 3), our InteRussia theatre fellows — actors from Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mauritania, South Africa, Tunisia, India, and China — immersed themselves in the creative world of Russian theatre.

Through an intensive program under the guidance of GITIS professors, the participants developed their skills in voice, movement, and stage performance, fully embracing the discipline of the Russian acting tradition. The program provided deep dives into foundational methods, including Stanislavsky's system, Meyerhold's biomechanics, and Vakhtangov's fantastic realism, through both practical classes and theoretical lectures.

The six-week immersion extended beyond the classroom, featuring meetings with theatre professionals and visits to legendary venues like the Bolshoi Theatre and Moscow Art Theatre. This comprehensive exposure to Moscow's rich cultural landscape directly informed their final showcase. The performance, based on Alexander Ostrovsky's "The Thunderstorm”, stood as a powerful culmination of their journey, masterfully blending their unique national perspectives with the techniques of Russian psychological theatre.

According to the participants, the program provided them with tools for further professional development. For many, it was more than just a professional program - it was a transformative journey through art, culture, and human connection. The teachers and organizers, in turn, noted the high level of motivation and preparation of the fellows.

The InteRussia fellowship program for non-Russian specialists in theatre arts is implemented by the Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund, Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS), TV BRICS international media network, and Rossotrudnichestvo with the grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation
