Actors from BRICS+ Countries Visit Stanislavsky's Museum

On September 25, as part of the InteRussia fellowship in Theatre Arts program, its participants visited the House and Museum of K.S. Stanislavsky, where they learned more about the life of the creator of the world-renowned acting system that forever changed theatre.

The fellowship, running in Moscow from August 25 to October 3, has brought together 12 young actors from BRICS+ countries – Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Mauritania, South Africa, Tunisia, India, and China. Under the guidance of leading mentors from GITIS, they are mastering the art of stage movement, speech, and acting.

During the fellowship, special emphasis is placed on the cultural program. For an actor, it is crucial not only to master the technique but also to immerse oneself in the spirit, traditions, and cultural context of the text. This approach allows them to move beyond reproduction and achieve authenticity and depth in their craft. This is why, alongside intensive training, the fellows are actively engaging with the theatrical process. They have already visited the legendary Bolshoi Theatre, the Moscow Musical Theatre, and the Chekhov Moscow Art Theatre. Visiting these iconic stages, learning about the theatres’ inner workings, and watching productions by leading Russian directors allow for a multifaceted understanding of the richness of the Russian theatre school, its historical roots, and contemporary trends.

It is this experience – of both academic training and vivid personal impressions – that will lay the groundwork of their final work: a production of scenes from Alexander Ostrovsky's "The Storm," where they will demonstrate the skills acquired during their six weeks in Moscow.

The InteRussia fellowship program for non-Russian specialists in theatre arts is implemented by the Mezhdunarodniki Autonomous Non-Profit Organisation in cooperation with the Gorchakov Fund, Russian Institute of Theatre Arts (GITIS), TV BRICS international media network, and Rossotrudnichestvo with the grant support from the Presidential Grants Foundation.
