From May 27 to June 17, the university hosts the Intermission Summer Engineering School for young foreign specialists in promising areas related to digital technologies and artificial intelligence. The event was organized with the support of the Gorchakov Fund, SB RAS, NSU and ANO "Mezhdunarodniki". 16 students from 9 countries came to the university, such as Nigeria, Belarus, Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Algeria, India, Uzbekistan, Indonesia, the United Arab Emirates and Tanzania.
The opening ceremony of the summer school took place on May 27. The event was attended by Evgeny Sagaidak, Head of the Department of Education Export at NSU; Igor Marchuk, Dean of the Faculty of Mechanics and Mathematics at NSU, as well as curators of three areas of the summer school – Alexander Savostyanov, Professor of the Department of General Informatics at the Faculty of Information Technology; Alexey Redyuk, Head of the Laboratory of Photonics and Machine Learning Technologies for Sensor Systems at the Faculty of Physics at NSU; Alexander Lyulko, Acting Director of the Research Center in the field of artificial intelligence at NSU.
"For students, participation in the summer engineering school is an excellent opportunity to gain new knowledge at one of the best Russian universities, take thematic courses from leading experts, take part in innovative professional master classes in one of three areas, as well as share experiences with colleagues from different countries," said Evgeny Sagaidak.
"The smart city theme is now promising and in demand. NSU has extensive research and educational competencies in this field. So, this year, a Research center in the field of artificial intelligence was established at the university, we became one of the six universities of the second wave and the only ones outside the Urals who received support from the Government of the Russian Federation within the framework of the national program "Digital Economy of the Russian Federation". The center is engaged in the creation and implementation of smart city technologies and training personnel to work with them. We consider it important to share our knowledge with colleagues from other universities and countries, so we are glad to participate in the summer school as experts and teachers," commented Alexander Lyulko.
The participants were also greeted by Liana Dymova, coordinator of scientific programs at the Gorchakov Fund. She thanked the partners for their cooperation, and also spoke about the activities of the Foundation and about the internship program for foreign specialists in various fields of InteRussia.
The internship program for foreign specialists in the field of international relations was first launched in 2021 by the Foundation together with MGIMO and Rossotrudnichestvo. It was a great success, grew and developed, and it should be noted that the range of fields and specialties is expanding every year — in 2024, the program is already being implemented in a wide range of specialties, including for journalists, Russian scientists, engineers, doctors, specialists in the field of energy, as well as for young actors and directors.
We cannot deny the growing role of technology, including artificial intelligence, in all spheres of life, so this internship is more relevant than ever. Russia has great potential in the development of this field, and we are happy to share our achievements with colleagues from other countries and get acquainted with their research. I am sure that such an exchange of experience will be useful for both sides. Our task is to create a kind of community of young professionals who will continue to interact, exchange ideas and, possibly, implement joint projects in the future.
The participants of the school will work in one of three groups in accordance with the chosen direction. The result of the event will be the preparation and presentation of your own scientific project.
