Participants of the InteRussia Internship Program visited the Valdai International Discussion Club

On November 18, discussion “Results of the G20 Summit: “Business as usual"?" took place at the Valdai Club. Young foreign professionals in the area of international relations from Argentina, Brazil, Myanmar, India, Serbia and South Sudan took part in the discussion.

The following speakers presented at the event:

  • Victoria Panova, Russia's Official Representative in G20 Women, Vice Rector of Higher School of Economics;
  • Yaroslav Lisvolik, Programs Director at the Valdai International Discussion Club;
  • Wang Wen, Professor, Executive Dean of Chongyang Institute for Financial Studies (RDCY) at the People's University of China;
  • Jeffrey Sachs, Professor, Director of the Center for Sustainable Development at Columbia University (USA);
  • Radhika Desai, Professor at the Department of Political Studies, Director of the Geopolitical Economy Research Group at University of Manitoba (Canada);
  • Andi Widjajanto, Head of the National Resilience Institute LEMHANNAS (Indonesia);
  • Mikatekiso Kibayi, researcher at the Institute for Global Dialogue at the University of South Africa (South Africa);
  • Dmitry Birichevsky, Director of the Department of Economic Cooperation at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Russia.

The discussion was moderated by Oleg Barabanov, Programs Director of the Valdai International Discussion Club.

The experts focused on the role of G20 as a platform for the international dialogue and the agenda of the Bali summit. According to them, the government of Indonesia did not allow positions of western countries to dominate the meeting and was able to reinforce the role of G20 as a forum representing the whole world in a multipolar perspective.

The foreign speakers believe that Russia and G20 need each other, and resources provided by the platform allow to effectively advance interests of the country and its partners in the global arena. A proposal was made that since G20 is a tool of global management, it is necessary to make the African Union its member.

The InteRussia internship in the area of international relations is a traditional educational event of the Gorchakov Fund implemented, among others, as part of the New Generation Program of Rossotrudnichestvo. It is the second program in 2022 for professionals in this area. Young researchers from countries of the post-Soviet space took part in the first internship in spring. This internship programs was organized by the Gorchakov Fund in partnership with Rossotrudnichestvo and MGIMO University.
